OK...I've just connected a new HD in the lower bay on my G5. Booted up and opened disk utility...not sure what to do next.
Do I just create a new disk image on the desktop and go to town filling it up or do I have to do some sort of formatting? Any advice wil be appreciated
Excuse my mac noobie ignorance.

The HD will only be used to store files and as a scratch disk for Photoshop.
It's a Maxtor Diamond Max 10 250gb S-ATA drive.

In Disk Utility select the erase tab. At the volume format tab select Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Give your drive a name and click the erase button. When it's done the drive will appear on your desktop ready to use.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
