I ended up returning my refurb G5 2.0 GHZ Dual Processor for a Imac Core Duo 2.0GHZ thinking that it would be faster running the native apps, and eventually once all apps run natively a better investment, and I would save a couple hundred bucks having the monitor included. I am getting a spinning beachball alot more on the core duo with all natively running apps. Both have the same amount of Ram. I am thinking about going back to the the refurb G5, but this time the G5 dual core instead of the Dual Processor. Am I insane, is my comp messed up, should the core duo be faster than the G5? (I know I am screwed on the restocking fees, but I believe amex refunds restocking fees, so...any help would be much appreciated)

I tried to read thorugh the other thread but some of the number crunching issues and whatnot went over my head. I did read somewhere that mduell said that a powermac G5 single CPU is 30% faster than an equally clocked core duo, so a dual core G5 should be 60% faster, right?

Interesting... I've been considering a similar switch myself, but going from a PowerMac Dual Core 2.3GHz to a MacBook Pro Dual Core 2.0GHz. Would the MacBook be a whole lot slower? Any input would help...

I don't think it would be that much slower, however you are running a laptop... what would you be doing on the dual 2.0?

Anyone have any ideas on what Apple has in store for the new Powermacs in the 3Q? Really want to go out and pick myself up a Quad, but I know I'll kick myself in the ass if I don't wait. I'm hopping they have a faster HD, the new Raptors are nice. Maybe SLI - gotta get better gamming performance on the Powermacs.

How much ram is "the same amount of ram"?

I'm a bird. I am the 1% (of pets).
