I have an iMac G5. I installed a Logitech wireless keyboard (for Mac) and all of a sudden, the numbers on the keypad (on the right next to the arrow keys) are doing weird things ... but not typing in numbers. I thought maybe it was the Logitech keyboard but I put my original keyboard back on and the keypad numbers still don't work.

Did I hit something by accident or is this a more serious problem?

Thanks!

Number lock? Maybe it's off (so it becomes a D-pad)

Sorry, but I'm kind of a newbie with Macs ... but neither keyboard seems to have a number lock key. Is it called something else???

Yes, on most keyboards it's also the "Clear" key.

Another alternative is that you switched Mouse Keys on which converts the number pad into a mouse. Go to System Preferences>Universal Access>Mouse & Trackpad and check to see if you have "Mouse Keys" activated.

HOLY CRAP! That was it! 3 weeks and 4 different Mac forums ... someone FINALLY gave me the right answer! Thanks very much JKT!

Being a Windows user for nearly 10 years and getting a Mac now creates a whole new set of quirks for me. Hopefully, they'll all be this simple.

Or inverted display. I was using Chicken of the VNC to access a Mac remotely and I hit the ctrl-cmd-option grave quote to go to full screen and then typed in some numbers. I was having some lag and it kind of got hung up. I disconnected and reconnected and everything looked like a photographic negative. I went down and looked at the real screen and it was messed up there too. Thinking I had caused some sort of display glitch with remote access, I rebooted. The screen was fine until right after I logged in, then everything went negative again. I did a google search and eventually discovered that I had turned on inverted display. The hot key to do this was ctrl-cmd-option 8. One of the numbers I was trying to enter was an 8. Apparently, COTVnc got confused and sent the 8 as if I'd held down all the modifiers and that caused it to go inverted.

That was a weird one...

Now that one numbers pad problem has been solved, how about this one?
If my mouse (pointer) hovers above a number or function in Calculator application, the number or function is entered when I key in 5. I also can use the mouse to enter my numbers on the Calculator. Those are the only ways I can use the numbers key pad. I have tried everything I can think of, restart, change mouse and keyboard, previous suggestions, etc. with no changes in wacky behavior, which is causing me to act wacky.

Thanks
