Hi. I've had my G5 DP 2.5 for about six months now and a thought occurred to me.

The unit came installed with two 256 meg sticks provided by Apple.

I added two sets of matched Corsair ram from a local vendor and installed
these myself.

It occurred to me that the twin 256 meg sticks are in the first slots of the
machine with the larger 512 sticks in the subsequent slots.

Would there be a performance difference placing the 512 meg sticks in the
initial slots instead? There would be more "breathing space" before running
out of memory but I have no quantitative or qualitative proof on this, it was
just something I thought of this morning.

I plan on removing the twin 256 meg sticks anyway to see if the matched
pair ram is faster than the default ram (default is 30330 I know).

Anyone else experiment with this?

In older systems, it sometimes helped to have the larger ram modules in the first slots, when they were significantly bigger than the others, but with the faster, dual-channel memory & higher speed unidirectional busses nowadays, it should not matter.......

but still, it might be interesting to see some comparisions, yes ?
Signatures are ugly. Bitchy women are ugly......YOU do the math :)

No, it won't make any different where the RAM sticks are. No slot has "higher priority" than any other, and "filling up" is nonsense.
Taking the 2x256MB out isn't going to help with performance.
