Good afternoon,

I am considering purchasing one of the new Mac mini computers as a media server that would be connected to my TV and Stereo as well as allow me to offload some of the audio and video files that are consuming the bulk of my Powerbook's HD. A few questions for those with a better understanding of these things than myself...

(1) Is there any simple way to convert the DVI output from the Mac Mini to Composite Video? My setup includes a Sharp 26 Inch LCD TV that has been professionally mounted on my wall. I had composite video cables run through the walls such that they connect to my AV base in the closet and come out of wall directly behind the TV so as to prevent any wires or cables from being shown. (At the time a DVI cable of the length I would have required was going to cost me well over $1000 so I went with composite cables instead.) I can connect the optical audio of from the mini into my receiver but need to figure out a way to convert the video. Is anyone aware of an adapter?

(2) I assume that the remote control requires direct line of sight. Does bluetooth require direct line of site or can the signal pass through walls? Ideally, I would be able to use the keyboard and mouse without having to have the closet door open. If bluetooth does require a direct line of site, any suggestions for a keyboard/mouse solution that does not?

(3) Uses of the machine would be to play DVD's on the TV, stream audio files to my Powerbook, play iTunes/iPhoto media on the TV, etc. Would I be better off springing for the Core Duo or going with the Core Solo and spending the difference on more RAM?

(4) Any other thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks in advance

That is NOT a converter! That is a plug adapter for specific ATI graphics cards that are already capable of outputting component video. It is highly, highly unlikely that it'll work on a Mac at all (since no ATI cards on Macs have ever supported component video out), never mind that it's an ATI adapter, and the Mac mini has an Intel GPU.

A question in the same spirit.... I would like to be able to use the mini in my living room. I dont want to sit at a table to surf so I would need a mouse integrated into the keyboard that I would hold on my lap. Does such a thing exist for mac?

GMA950 supports a lot of video output formats (I think that's one of the reasons why Apple is using it). But I'm not sure that "Multiple display types (LVDS, DVI-I, DVI-D, HDTV, TV-out, CRT)" means a DVI-Component adapter will work, or if the driver for OS X would even support such a thing.
