1. Does the optical digital out mean that 5.1 can done without buying an external convertor?

2. Does the Apple Remote control other programs besides Front Row? If so, which ones? Does the IR sensor mean that some current or future remote can be used to control these and other programs?

3. How well will the picture look if I hook this up to a TV via composite? I think I've read that DVD's will look okay. What about web browsing or checking email? Will this be usable?

1. Yes

2. Yes, it controls main system audio when just in finder or similar, and will control DVD player, and iTunes (even when itunes is playing, but is not the foremost app)

3. composite doesnt give a decent enough picture to use it for text reading IMO, unless the text is at size 14+. DVDs will be fine
