I am considering what my updrade options are for my iMac. I have an iMac DV SE (G3-400Mhz, 256MB RAM, 30GB Maxtor HDD, 2x DVD reader [slot-loading], 10.3.9). I am just got this thing less than a month ago, because of a good expirience with a Powerbook (G3-333Mhz, 192MB RAM, 4GB HDD, 24x CD Reader, 9.2.2).

I need to be able to do some MiniDV video editing, and Photoshopping. My iMac is doing its darndest to keep up, but I am outgrowing what it can do. I am considering a CPU upgrade to G4-600. I would also get some used RAM, and a used DVD burner (speed is not terribly important, as it would only be making a master to copy from on another machine). This would suit me, I think.

However, it would be price-competitive to get a Mac Mini (I would prefer a Core Duo, but look with what I am working with now!).

So I ask you, which do you all think would be a wiser choice, remembering that I have a P4-3.0 Ghz room-heater lying unused. (This is because I haven't the cash to get the software I need to do what I have to do, the PSU is blown (I blew a 400 watt PSU!) and because OSX is absolutely awesome)?

Sell the P4 and the iMac, buy a mini and an LCD.

Yah, but Rosetta runs photoshop like a dog, and I am fine on the monitor. I think the iMac would become the world's largest firewire external drive. I could get a fair price for the parts in the P4, though.
