I've got a Quicksilver 933 with 1,5 gigs of RAM.

Currently my VGA-card is a nVidia GeForce 4 MX with 64 megs.

Would it make any sense to upgrade to a newer card since I'm not gaming.

Thanks!

it depends on wether or not you want more performance out of any video or photo editing apps.... i guess.... I have the same exact card on my Compaq and playing any game made after 2002 is just awful. (my machine was made in 2000)

Does iPhoto or Photoshop depend on the graphicscard?

Would upgrading accelerate, i.e. scrolling and resizing in iPhoto?

If you are running Tiger, the answer is a resounding yes.

All desktop functions are currently being rendered by your CPU.

A Radeon 9600 or better, or a Nvidia 5200 or better moves Graphics processing of desktop GUI to GPU, freeing up some much-needed CPU power.

No, but the OS X GUI does, as well as QT, iDVD, and other video, rendering and or 3D apps

Putting in a card that supports Quartz Extreme and/or Core Video will give a smoothness to the GUI that you will enjoy.

The other important reason to upgrade the graphics card is for bragging rights. This way you will know that you are better than the other people with their lowly non Core Graphics graphics cards.

I have an ATi Radeon 9650 256Mb in my Digital Audio
Power Mac G4 Digital Audio 533MHz 1.5GiB RAM, 2x 80Gb ATA HDDs, 320Gb SATA HDD, Radeon 9650 256MiB, Airport Extreme compatible PCI card, Zip 250, Pioneer 110, Firewire DVD burner, 21" CRT, Harmon Kardon Apple Pro Speakers, OS X 10.4.6
Powerbook Pismo G3 400MHz, 768MiB RAM, 80Gb HDD, AirPort Extreme PC Card, Bluetooth 1.1, DVD-ROM, OS X 10.4.6, Ubuntu 5.10, MacOS 9.2.2
