As demand for the MacBook Pro continues to rise, Apple has officially declared the end to the 20-inch iMac G5, a few weeks after the company phased out the 17-inch G5 model and 15-inch PowerBook G4. Existing orders of the G5 will be completed assuming that stock is still available. All orders "for which no stock is available" will be canceled by the company. Apple is no longer selling non-Intel iMac models.

Pretty much any reseller should still have a healthy stock of them for a few more weeks. Good chance to get a nice machine for a bit of a discount if you don't want an Intel/don't need to run Adobe or Apple apps.

My roomate was just going to order a BTO G5 next week, hopefully I can convince him to get the intel now. I wonder how long they'll have some G5s on the refurb page.

Im actually surprised it took this long to get a thread going about this.

I'm hoping in a year or so, when I decide to upgrade from my PowerBook, it will actually be worth more than it is now to people who want to run Classic apps.

I doubt it... there are a lot of classic capable Macs out there and not that many people who need to use classic.

Bye Bye G5. I thought they stopped making them a while ago. Good deals at Amazon for them, with rebates, free shipping, no tax.

I still see it at the apple store. They have just discontinued production, and just need to sell out?

That's great.... and here I sit with my NEW iMac 20" G5, picked up yesterday at CostCo! You can always find a PowerPC system in a refurbs...

See you early adopters on the other side in a year or two....
