Hey folks,

I was wondering if anyone knew if we can install an external antenna on the WiFi card on the Power Mac G5 Dual Core systems. My roommates and I set up a wireless network that is stationed at the other end of the apartment (where the cable connection is). My iBook gets great reception, but my Power Mac can barely keep a connection. It's funny that my cheap mac can get a better connection than my behemoth G5. Anyone have suggestions?

Thanks

By all means, look up Quickertek

http://www.quickertek.com/G5Ant.php

I bought an external antenna for my Pismo from them and the reach goes alot further than I imagined. They make antennas for most Mac models

Do you have Airport Anntenna Installed. With out it, your going to get poor reception. With it, I get excellent reception.

I can use my Mac on 2nd floor and the wireless router on the first floor.

On the Dual Core G5s, the airport antenna is embedded in a plastic strip on the back of the case. I haven't popped open the case to see if it is connected via a standard plug...but was wondering if anyone else tried something.

The dual core PMs have a built in airport antenna, which is located on the back face, to the left side. It is a long silver strip. The older Dual Proc G5s had the external antenna that had to be fixed to the airport port on the back

Really, that's dumb. No wonder he has poor reception. Sometimes I really wonder why apple does some things.

The antenna is pretty standard. Depending on your skillz you can do some pretty hard core stuff. A guy I know with a large property in the country hooked up a dish to his basestation and got kilometre range.

But first check that you have an aerial attached! They come up on eBay occaisionally for not many $$$
