When the Imac starts up, the screen is green. Red colors are still visible, but blue is invisible.
After 10 mlinutes, sometimes the blue color comes back, but for some moments and then it is lost again. It happens also that, when I restart the computer, that it shuts down instead. And then I am unable to restart, unless I unplug the (electricity) power cable and put it back again.
I have zapped the PRAM, resetted the Open Firmware, checked the PRAM battery and replaced it with another from a working G3. I checked the RAM with gauge Pro and Techtool Pro didn't report any ROM, RAM, CPU, VRAM problems... Nothing helped.
Can someone give me advice?

TIA

it may be that the monitor cable has came out or got dislodged.
if you open it up. the cable is the grey one connected near the back of the cd rom drive.

for even more help, some specs would be nice.

It's a slot loading Imac with 320 MB RAM and 7 GB Hd
350 MHz and 9.2. installed.
The strange thing is that I also have problems to restart. Instead it shut's down.

Thanks for your advice, I will check it.
I have never opened an Imac. I'll try this evening. Fingers crossed.

its easy on mine, but mine is a tray loading.

they are differnet inside. on mine,

i have to put it screen down and on the bottom side of it there is a screw with a handle (a gray plastic one) undo it and pull the whole cover off with the handle. then your see the cable. you shouldnt be able to damage your mac from there.

i'd google it for better answers though, im rubbish at explaining these things.

Bad luck. I opened the case and I removed the heat shield, one of the screws felt in the computer. I didn't even see the video cables. I will try again next evening and try to find the lost screw...

whatever you do, do not plug in or start the mac, you could blow it up.

if you have another internet enabled computer, google "imac slot open" and look for guides.

I have found the screw, but I don't know from where it comes.
This is my Imac

I still didn't reach the VGA (video cable)
Opening this Mac seems to be a lot more complicated than yours.

The tray-load iMacs have an actual removable cable to the monitor. The slot-load iMacs are hardwired I believe.

I have found the correct manual now, but it seems to be very tricky to reach the VGA cable.

Is it possible that because I didn't use screws to put the heat shield back that the screen colors are sometimes strange?
