i have a 1ghz 17" powerbook that wont run some of the new digital photography software. some of my photograph files are huge (up to 500mb). i am looking at the 20" imac core duo and wanted your hands on opinion of this computer using photoshop, iphoto, aperature, or whatever programs you use. i have waited this long because the new ibook might work depending on the specs (screen size, etc).

to be perfectly honest, i dont understand what all this "rosetta doesnt work well" is all about.

i got a new 17 inch imac, with stock specs (not for much longer) and photoshop runs faster under rosetta on this than it does natively on my windows pc with a gig of ram and a 2 ghz processor.

seriously, go for it.

aperture will be universal later this month.

but illustrator definately lags a little. sort of disapointing

i use photoshop and iphoto all the time. i have a 1ghz powerbook, and recently purchased a 1.83 imac core duo. the core duo with only 512mb cannot run photoshop, i mean it CAN run it..but its definitely not useable. iphoto on the other hand is waaaaaaaaay faster and runs much smoother than my powerbook. i have used photoshop on a 20" imac core duo with 1.5 gb and its lots faster than the powerbook, reason being is that rosetta needs all the ram it could get. i would say 2gb of ram in either imac will be much faster than your powerbook on photoshop and TONS faster on apps that are universal such as iphoto.

well i usually have a few apps up while running adobe apps (mail, itunes, safari, and linotype) and i find both illustrator and photoshop are too slow. like i mentioned before, i need more ram and am certain once doing so, i will have a very snappy machine.
