Hello All.

I have been using a Dual G5 for over a year now and have always noticed a bit of a chirping sound emanating from my computer. However as of late I have noticed it has become louder or more frequent - well at least I think it has anyhow.

Is the addition of a firewire device likely to cause an increase? The reason why I ask this is because I just got for my birthday a eyeTV 200 and I think this device may be the cause.

If anyone has suggestions or comments it would be greatly appreciated.

Buy a new graphics card, then you won't be able to hear the chirping above the fan noise

What causes the chirp? I am unfamiliar with this problem.

Apparently, its a power-supply problem. Variations in load current may cause some PSU components to hum slightly. Pulsing load current peaks and some PSU will components will make a chirping sound. A way to help reduce the chirping is to reduce the load variations, caused by the processors switching gear. Try settings in the Energy Saver panel, or by installing CHUD and dissabling the processor Nap feature. If the chirping is really bad, you may want to find a new PSU.
