My 4 month old 30" monitor started to shimmer (flicker in brightness) on and off today.

Is this a sign it is about to choke?

Running 10.4.5 on a Quad 2.5, Quadro FX 4500.

Could be, but it could also be the DVI cable and/or connection. Double check that.

Help me out here guys, cause I don't remember: Is the little power indicator on the display (lower right hand corner) supposed to be on solid all the time or only blinking when the display is in sleep?

Mine is OFF when the screen is working. It blinks like crazy when the screen is flickering/shimmering, and when I put it to sleep it just blinks.

I've reset the PRAM, checked the cables, plugged it into the OTHER video port, even moved it to a different power source, etc.

My gut tells me it is the power supply because the display is behaving like there is insufficient power to drive the screen.

Called Apple this AM and they advise I call a service center.

Service center says bring it in, we'll send it into Apple for service.

I better not get it back with scratches, etc.

My little light is off on my 30" ACD right now (obviously the screen is on since I'm typing this). It pulses slowly when the screen is sleeping.

Hope you get the problem fixed. It's a great monitor (and computer) that you have.

The light should be on & solid when the monitor is in power-save mode, pulsing slowly when the computer is sleeping, and off when the monitor is in use. Blinking lights indicate a problem, and I believe there is a blink code breakdown on Apple's support pages.
