Hi,
Please help me find a free dowload for Mac OS 9.0.0.

I need to upgade from OS 8.6 to OS 9.0.0 which is prerequisite to 9.1, (which is my goal),
for using an external hard drive for transfering files from a G3 to a G5.

I've found alot of downloads for OS 9.1 already, but none for OS 9.0.0.

Just checking to see if there's anyone out there that knows of a freebie before
I start looking on Ebay.

Thanks,
Rob

downloading an app yet alone an operating system if not cool, do the right thing and scour the net for a $10 copy.

Thanks IREZ,

After looking on ebay I found a used retail set for OS 9 w/ all the upgrades for $40.00.
I also called the Apple store, they want $100 for OS 9.2.2 - Thanks but no thanks.

It's more than I wanted to spend, but it'll be handy for the old G3.

Do I need to close this post or will the moderator do it?

He didn't say he wanted to pirate it, he was innocently asking if it's available somewhere for free, as it is very ancient software that has been declared dead by its creator, much like System 7.5 is available for free. No need to formulate your reply that way, you could have said "Unfortunately, Apple is still not allowing free download of Mac OS 9 yet, however, you can find a copy for about 10$. Etc"

The presumption of innocence, or benefit of the doubt, should prevail over your baseless assumption.

i think its pretty basic knowledge that os 9 is not free, so asking for a download link resulted in me basing an opinion. sorry if this offended anybody but i see it on par with somebody asking if theres a free photoshop 7.0 link and im trying to be a good citizen bout it. i see your point though FireWire and will word my responses more carefully in the future.

I wonder if OS9 will become a free download one day? They might as well in a couple of years.

I think its possible and probable. Just look at what apple has done for system 6 and 7, they're now in public domain and free to download and distribute.

Didn't Apple used to include OS 9 for Classic in OS X 10.1 and earlier?

i work in prepress and believe it or not, there are lots of companies out there that still use os 9. hell, the place i work for would still be using os 9 if i dont push for every os update that gets released. even now, im a guinea pig for using 10.4 with our machines, while the other two computers are still on panther. id imagine apple offering it as a download one day, but when....

Is the G5 a tower?
Why not remove the HD and transfer the files.

The G3 would be either SCSI or ATA, the G5 is SATA.

Can the original poster not just network them together, I know it might take a long time but at least it would be cheap.
