I use an emac for music production and want to partition my hard drive into a 28 gig system component and a 10 gig music/project partition. My question is when partitioning, is the first or second partition placed on the outside (physically) of the disc platters. I want my music/project partition to be on the outside of the platters as this will give me better data transfer and a higher audio track count,
thanks,
rich

The first partition is on the outside.

I never understood why CDs do it the other way; in fact one of the game consoles uses disks that start on the outside instead of the inside.
