Hello everybody,
I recently got a Quad G5 with the BTO 7800GT for a graphics card. Now my question is this: while Apple did a marvellous job with the fan control system regarding noise, I'm asking myself whether the fan on the actual 7800 card is controlled in any way, because I've only heard it running in hair dryer mode, not going up or down with usage like the rest of the fans.
This is actually quite unnerving, as the noise level of the system without the 7800's fan is really quiet, but almost unbearable otherwise. (Don't hit me, I stopped it with a finger for a second.)
Is there some software solution to this, maybe even from NVIDIA themselves? Or is this normal and I really need to rip off that fan and glue a passive cooler to the card, losing a PCI-E slot?
