I have an imac bondi blue 266mhz (or 233)

when I switch it on - it has the flashing question mark and fails to boot the OS

when I put in a OS8 or OS9 cd it also fails to boot from that

it sounds like it's about to (starts spinning) and then stops

it won't see either the cd or the hard drive

but I'm puzzled as to what this could be down to

I have zapped pram/firmware etc

anybody have any idea what this could be down to?

check cables to drives.
replace drives or check in another machine.

if drives and cables are good, logic board's ide has failed. this is rarely the case but not impossible.
