My setup a DA G4 with a Fastmac 1,47 upgrade 1gb ram and a BenQ DVD writer. I have the following problems. On the second ide cable I had connected a pioneer dvd burner and an extra hard disk. I started to get problems with the hard disk and the burner. Buffer underruns and broken connections with the hard disk. I bought a faster BenQ writer which should work with patchburn. I also took the hard disk out. And reinstalled 10.4. Now I still have problems burning. Buffer underrun errors and interface errors. Mostly in Toast. With Disk Utility there are less problems. I tried different brands of DVD media. Any ideas to fix this. Could it be a broken ide cable?

Do you have both the harddrive and DVD burner set to cable select (or manually configured to master/slave)? Have you tried the burner and harddrive separately?

If the answers to both of these questions are yes, then you may have a bad IDE cable.
