There are a lot of 400+Mhz iMacs on eBay which specify a CD-RW.

Those are Combo drives, which can by definition read DVDs, right?

Thanks.

Hum… I can not remember any iMac CRT (400 MHz & up) with a combo drive… they had plain cd-rom or dvd-rom… then later they got a cdrw (remember that rip, mix, burn ad), but a dvd/cdrw combo…I don't think so. The first model getting it had to be the original iMac G4.

No, CD-RW is not the same as Combo.

CD-RW drives write CD-R and CD-RW, and read CD-ROM, CD-R, and CD-RW.

Combo drives do all the above, plus add the ability to read DVDs.

DVD-RW drives do all the above, plus add the ability to write DVD-R and DVD-RW.

No G3 iMacs ever had combo drives out of the box. If you ever see that, it's something someone upgraded after purchase.
