Hi all, I have a previous model iMac (the one with the dome bottom) I would like to access my home wireless network on this machine.
As the iMac is NOT wireless enabled can anyone point me to the product or adapter which I need to purchase to allow the machine to access my wireless network?
Thanks very much
jason

You need an Airport Extreme card. They're $69 in the special deals part of the Apple Store (regularly $99, either way a huge scam).

I dont think this will work as the previous IMac is not Airport Extreme ready and as far as I know has no slots to take such cards

Airport was introduced in the G3 eara, hence your G4 iMac will take an airport card (not sure if it will take airport extreme or just airport). I also don't know how easy it is to install a card in the G4 iMacs, so you may be better off going with an ethernet to wireless bridge, ie something from D-Link.

Post the exact model you have, and someone can help you figure out what kind of card you need.
I'm leaving this networking-related thread here because it's about what card goes in a specific iMac. If you need more information about networking, look in the Networking forum.

Starting at 1Ghz all of the G4 iMacs had Airport Extreme slots. Below 1Ghz they have Airport slots.

Apple's boards are expensive, and the old-style Airport boards are also hard to find. Another option is to use a USB plug. There has been a few threads about it - this is one I started that includes some information. What I basically did was to get a cheapo adapter with that chipset and download the driver from the chipset supplier. Works, even though the driver is a bit clunky.
