I'm not sure what the problem is but I burned my last DVD-R from an Imation 50-pack. Next, like a good little consumer I went to my local Wal-Mart and picked up another Imation 50-pack like I'd done two times in the past. I get home ready to burn that first DVD and encounter a media error. Not sure of what the problem was I tried a couple of other DVD's from a different part of the 50-pack. Same error. I was using Toast for the first burn and thought of using the Finder for a burn and got the same error. I then took those DVD-R's back to Wal-Mart to exchange them for a different pack thinking perhaps it may have been a bad batch. I get home, the same thing. I then begin to wonder if my drive is going bad so I try burning a CD and that works. Then I try a different DVD brand and it works too. My last option was to try burning an Imation DVD with my external LaCie DVD burner and of course, it worked. What I don't understand is why all of a sudden I can no longer use Imation DVD's with my Superdrive? I considered a firmware update, but there isn't one available for my model on the Sony website. So, I zapped the PRAM and repaired permissions to no avail. Another interesting thing about my situation is that the Superdrive will read Imation DVD's burned by my LaCie. Any clues or suggestions? Maybe Imation has altered the dye color of their blanks in an effort to cut costs. Maybe I just have a weird Sony Superdrive that has something against Imation DVD's after it's burned over 100 of them. Who knows?
Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated!
