Within the next couple of weeks, I will be replacing my trusty 1.6 GHz Power Mac G5 with a 20" iMac. G5 has 1 GB of RAM, new iMac will have 1.5.

Does anyone have a rough idea how the performance of applications like MS Office and Dreamweaver will compare to my G5? I realize they won't be "fast" but will they be roughly equal to what I have now?

if you got the new 20" intel and drop 1.5gb of ram in it...i feel strongly that it'd perform as fast if not faster than your current machine. 2gb and for sure you'll have a faster comp, seeing that rosetta needs as much ram as possible when running.
NOW YOU SEE ME! 2.4 MBP and 2.0 MBP (running ubuntu)

MS Office and Dreamweaver aren't really "performance" applications... how fast can a word processor go?
I doubt you'll notice much of a difference in such apps.

It's not exactly what you're asking for, but should give you some idea on the performance of intel based machines.

Cool, thanks guys. That's reassuring. I'm by no means a heavy Office/Dreamweaver user (maybe two hours a day), but it would be great if this isn't a step backward.

Only fair, I stole it from someone else.
