This is for everyone who has a Dual 2GHz G5.

Simple question. When you plug your headphones into the front jack on the computer does the audio automatically switch to the headphones?

I my case I normally have the audio coming through my USB Soundsticks. If I plug in my headphones the computer does not switch the music over automatically. I have to go into the sound panel in system preferences and change it manually.

I have the current gen G5 Dual at work and it does not exhibit this behavior.

Is this a flaw with all Rev A's or just with my unit? Is the only option to replace the motherboard?

I believe it will automatically switch over if you have the default sound out set to "Line Out", but when you set it to something else, such as when I set the sound out to my USB Logitech headset, then you have to manually set it. Hope this helps. And yes, I do have a Rev. A Dual 2.0 G5.

USB SoundSticks are a separate audio device. Madison is exactly right that the headphones will override the rear-panel jack (since it is the same audio device), but will not switch to a totally separate device.

There's nothing wrong with your motherboard. This function is entirely under OS control.

Darn, I hate it this way.
To clarify though the soundsticks are USB and i plug the headphones into the front port.

I've got the same set up: rev A G5 Dualie w/ soundsticks. I've always had to go to the System Preferences pane > Sound and de-select soundsticks > select Line Out. BTW, have you had any video card problems w/ your rev A? I'm on my 3rd card in 3 years. Overheating issues.

No video card issues for me. I did have power supply issues. The first one chirped too much for my liking to I had it replaced after a year. The second one lasted for 6 months and then one of the fans in it started to make an odd repeating sound so I had it replaced. The new powersuppy is pretty quite and still works well 3 months later.

Yup, I know. You said so in the original post.

Sorry, I don't know any way around this other than to ditch the USB SoundSticks and get speakers that connect via analog.

Well I have a Rev. B G5 Dual 2.0Ghz and when I plug in headphones, I still get sound out of ordinary speakers plugged into the line out at the back, as well as sound through the headphones. The sound blanks for a second when the headphones are inserted/removed and the Audio setup shows the source automatically switching from Line-Out to Headphones, but the sound continues to be played out of both.

I've kind of put up with this and simply turned off the speakers when listening via headphones. It's always done this since I got it.
