We need more info. What is the system you're trying to install on? ie - PowerMac, iMac, ... Dell? What install disk with which version of OSX? What was the fatal error message, and how far did you get before the message came up?

What is the system configuration. How much RAM, what CPU (or CPU upgrade if there is one), what type hard drive, what video card?

If you're trying to install on a PowerMac and the error appears to be hardware-related, then your question belongs here. If it's hardware related, but for a PowerBook or something else, then it belongs in the appropriate hardware forum. If the error turns out not to be hardware-related, then your question belongs in our Mac OS forum.

Sounds like RAM to me. Have you tried pulling RAM out? You've gotta have sets on the dual G5s, so you'd have to pull one set or the other, if you've got 2 sets (4 slots filled) Like this: (X represents filled slot, --- represents empty slot)

If you now have

---
---
X
X

X
X
---
---

Then try to pull out two like this:

---
---
---
X

X
---
---
---

and try the install again.

Then do the opposite, if pulling the first pair doesn't work.

If it's the DVD, you could test it on another Mac. However, it sounds like you are managing the install, but than it screws up on the reboot.

Boot up from the install DVD. When the Installer opens and waits for you to make choices, instead go to the Utilities menu and chose Disk Utility. The installer will quit and Disk Utility will open. Select the Install DVD and click the Verify Disk button, this will do a basic test if the DVD is OK.

Since it sounds like you got past the installation process OK, it seems more likely that the G5's internal HD has a glitch or something. Select the internal HD in Disk Utility, and click the Repair Disk button. If it fixes anything, quit Disk Utility and it will go back to the Installer. Do a fresh install and try it again.

Finally, do you have a digital camera? If so, take a picture of the screen when it finishes hanging. Give us a link to the picture. That way, we can make sense of the error messages.
