Hi all,

I'm seriously looking at selling my DP 2ghz G5 and get iMac 20", but here are my questions.

1. I currently use my G5 for web, email, Final Cut 5 & Motion. How much more of an improvement will these be?.

2. I have a lot of HD's, can I hook up an external raid to the iMac?, I need at least 1TB of storage (excluding boot drive)

3. Can iMac serve another monitor, like my dell 24" if i wanted dual display?

My plan is to sell my G5 with Sony 19" (Silver), keep my FCP studio & crossgrade to 5.1. Buy the iMac 20" & some external HD storage, and hopefuly utilise my Dell 24" some how. My thinking is I should sell my G5 to help finance the iMac while I can still get a decent price for it, and then later upgrade from the iMac to the new Powermac G5 when it comes out as the iMac will hold a better price then.

What do you guys think?

1. The iMac will be about the same in FCP, and a bit faster in Motion. Web and mail aren't really performance apps, so it should be the same as your G5.

2. Sure, you've got 2 Firewire 400 and 3 USB 2.0 ports to connect all the storage you want up to (hubs and chaining are also options). 1TB is "only" two or three drives these days.

3. Yep, you can span to any DVI screen.

Since you only have 2GB RAM I think the iMac is a good fit for you; if you had 4 and were itching for more I'd say wait for an Intel pro desktop Mac.
