hi

my blue & white won't boot up ftom my OS8.5 cd

the cd does come up on the desktop when I insert - but when I try to boot off it it gives question mark and starts from the HD again

I know the cd isn't damaged as it boots in my imac

any ideas what could be causing this?

(i need this cd in order to repair another computer)

Are you booting with the C key held down or have the CD drive set to your startup drive in the control panel?

The blue & white needs 8.6 and can't boot with 8.5

Macs won't boot from a system less than that with which it came. My beige PM's won't boot from 8.0, only 8.5 or higher. AppleHistory lists the minimum OS as 8.5.1, but if later models came with later OS's, then that's what's required.

Indeed, the first B&Ws shipped with 8.5.1. I am pretty sure that all B&Ws can boot that version. But 8.6.1 and 9.x are superior anyway.
