hello to all of you.....
i am hoping to have a good time here and tht ur experteese will help me:
im currently using a eMac 1.42 GHz, 256 MB RAM, 80 GB HD, ATI 9600 64 Mb. Bought in early 2005.
And it's starts to lag when Word, Messenger, Safari and iTunes are open at the same time, it didnt before. Although it surprisingly doesnt seem to Lag when i have iPhoto, Photoshops CS and Safari open - generally u'd expect foto editing programs to slow it down. (i have 40 GB free space)
So i was thinking about a memory (RAM) upgrade- to 768 Mb. But at the same time the Intel Macs are attracting me... and not only because of the "hardware", but also cause iLife '06 + iSight is there, and so is Bootcamp.
What do u people think, is it wise to take the leap to the next platform? If any of you are using r have tested intel macs... do u reccomend them? How better are they for gaming and media.. as well as speed in other stuff? Should i possibly wait for Mac OSX Leopard (10.5) to come out, and then buy it?
Consider that I am 15 yrs old, so I dont I only edit as a hobby (but of course require speed), and the end of June i will have atleast 20,000 kr (ca 2200€, or US $2,700)
i'm hoping to get help from u guys... and im assuming i will- so thnx in advance

WRT the eMac, I have the model before yours and the first thing I did when I bought it was add 1GB to take it up to 1.25GB and it never lags with multiple apps open, unless I am asking it to do too much processor intensive stuff.
If I had the money and need, I would upgrade to an iMac today, but for me at the moment with more important things to spend any money on, I will get by just fine video editing. photos and web stuff.
So, if you need a newer fater machine and have the money go for it, if not get some more RAM, see if you can find a 1GB stick.
Just my opionion...HTH

hhmm..... sounds good- i thought the RAM may have been the issue
my dad bought the 1GHz, 128 Mb 40 GB eMac....... and i assume that RAM would help it from lagging with only Word and Safari open..... ( although he's got the latest PowerBook now)
but the Intel based iMac has more than just better Ram.. soo im still considering
dude, thnx for givin me ur opinion

You MUST get more RAM, I know how frustrating an eMac can be with only 256mb. Add 512mb to it and it will fly in comparison

iMac Core 2 Duo 17" 2ghz 3gb/250gb || iBook G4 12" 1.33ghz 1gb/40gb

Apple tend to have special deals on products a month or two before they are due to be updated, so there isn't really any fixed time of the year when they do.
