Hello,

I just bought a new Intel Duocore mac min and I want to put some of my dvd's on the hard drive so I can watch them using front row. Is there a good decryter software out there for this? I guess I would also need a program to convert the file to mpeg-4 or another format does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

You can choose the resolution to encode to.
For DVDs it doesn't make much sense to go over 720x480, since that's the source resolution.

Note that this has nothing to do with the fact you're using a Mini; it's an app question.

I have a counter question for mduell; will Handbrake work on Intel-based Macs? Id' think it would have to do a lot of processor-specific work to rip a DVD. So is it a) available for Intel-Macs, or b) a universal binary, or c) something else?

Ripping a DVD shouldn't contain much processor specific code, but the reencoding should have a lot of optimized code.

HandBrake has been Intel native since January and an Universal Binary since February. They say not everything is optimized for Intel yet, but it encodes in realtime on Core Duo (which previously required a dual G5, AFAIK).

If the video quality while playing the DVD is grainy, then it's meant to be that way.

Well I tried watching "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" a movie that is very sharp with rich colors and its not super grainy but its not as sharp as when I watch it on my TV I'm wondering if it has something to do with my video card or display?

No, it has to do with the codec you used to encode it to. If you used MP4 at 700 kbps (the default) it will look like crap at any resolution. Try encoding it in H264 with an average of 1400 kbps.
