I have an old Performa 6360 which hasn't been used regularly in years. By and large, when I migrated to my now 5 1/2-year-old G4, I took all the important documents with me.

HOWEVER, I'm looking for some old pictures, and think they may be on there (digital, obviously). While I'm at it, I'll make sure there's nothing else of value, though frankly, it can't be much.

In any case, I tried hooking everything up (forgot the mouse, though!). Everything powers up, but I can't get anything on the monitor. It's possible the settings on that are not quite right, or maybe it's not seated corrected (it's an old Sony Trinitron).

Now, I don't want to spend tons of time on this. Would it be possible to hook the Performa to the G4 tower (am now using a Dell 20-inch widescreen monitor) -- and if so, how? There's also a Lacie SCSI hard drive I have to deal with, too.

Thanks in advance. I don't want to spend tons of time on this -- I just want to double-check the drives and move on.

Does your G4 tower have SCSI? You can mount the Performa's HD on the G4's if you connect the performa to the G4 over SCSI. Kinda like Target Disk Mode with Firewire. Likewise, you could just take the HDD out of the performa and stick it in the G4.

Uhh, no. Performas didn't have Target Disk Mode.

Have you tried connecting the new display?

Are you sure it's actually booting? A Mac that old may have a dead PRAM battery, and when those go, the machine won't boot.

Not sure it's actually booting. I did get those trademark dhimes when I turned the machine on -- but with nothing on the monitor I can't see what's actually happening. I am going to fiddle with the monitor a bit more -- I think that could be the problem -- and if I still can't get it to work I will try connecrting the old machine to my Dell. It appears I can take the drive from the Performa and put it in the G4 tower, too. The two machines are separated by two floors -- haven't moved them all down to the same area yet, but will do so today.
Thanks. I'm actually thinking that I must have taken pretty much everything of value from one machine to the other when I got the G4, but now I just want to clean everything out, so I can dispose somehow of the Performa. It's not like anyone is using it...

Do you actually hear hard disk churning after it powering on?

My hunch is it's a dead PRAM battery. That diagnosis fits your symptoms to a T.
