I have an old grape imac dv 400 which I've been using as a wireless network server, my internet hub. It's not starting. If I press the start button nothing happens. If I hold it, sometimes it will light up, I'll hear a screen static noise, a quick groan like something (drive?) is starting up, and the usb keyboard light will flash like it's being checked - then it dies again.

Does anybody have any clues as to what might be causing this, or be able to point me to links that might help me pull apart the mac and investigate the problem? Thanks.

Sounds like the analogue board - I had one go on my old machine and had it replaced. It was economically viable then, but I would not do it now.

Try searching for 'imacdv.pdf' and 'imac_sl.pdf' for the take apart, but only proceed if you know about CRTs and their drive ccts. There are f-squared high voltages in the CRT drive ccts when powered and they often remain after depowering - if you don't know about such things, don't go there, get someone to help who does - I am only saying this to protect the uninformed.
