hi

I tried putting my two 256mb pc100 Ram into my G$ AGP - and upon startup it gave one beep

I take it you can't use G3 (blue & white) RAM in a G4 (AGP)?

- not sure if it makes any difference, but the g3 did have a g4 zip upgrade

This says both use PC-100 ram. Should work.

very strange I tried both of the chips individually - same thing happens

ONE BEEP

all my other chups work fine

the two 256mb chips that don't work say 32x64

one of the chips that do work which is a 128mb says 16x64 on it - does this have anything to do with it?

how much can the powermac g4 (agp) take per ram slot?

(at the moment I have 3x 128mb and 1x 64mb and it seems to be running fine - but I wanted to out 256mb into every slot)

Well...the page I linked says the AGP G4 has four slots and can take 2 Gb of ram. Strange indeed. Maybe the ram density does have something to do with it. Crucial's page for the AGP lists 32x64 and 64x64 chips. Here's the link to that page....maybe you can make something out of it.

The first AGP G4's, aka Sawtooth, can take a max of 4x 512mb chips, either PC100 or 133, BUT they still have to be the 16 X 64 variety and must have modules on both sides of the pcb. These are "low-density" chips, the "high-density" chips only have modules on one side and will NOT work in a Sawtooth.

Been there, done that.......the hard way
