Looking to buy an iMac and I came across this deal thru the refurbished page in the Apple store today.

Refurbished iMac 20-inch 2GHz Intel Core Duo
512MB (single SO-DIMM) 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM
250GB Serial ATA hard drive
Slot-load 8x double-layer SuperDrive
ATI Radeon X1600 graphics with 128MB GDDR3 memory
Built-in AirPort Extreme and Bluetooth 2.0

$1,399.00

questions:
1. how good are the refurbished items on apple.com?
2. is this a good deal? If not, where should I look for better deals?

Thanks.

Yes something I'd like to know too, 1399 is a good price, but how is the quality? Like new? I'd love to get one with the 256Meg, for XP games, but at that price it's hard to pass up.

I cant speak for the intel's and I can only speak for myself. But in the past, I have purchased many refurbs from apple.com and my local apple store. I have been satisfied each and every time. My last purchase was a G5 iMac refurb from apple.com and it ran great from day 1, if I was to complain, the machine had a small scuff on the front of the machine (not on the LCD) and it was only noticed in certain lights and from differnt views.
But with the money I saved, I really didnt mind.
Thats my .02

I have bought several refurbs over the years. I did have an issue with a Power Mac G5, but apple replaced it. Everyother refurb that I have is great and looked brand new to me. The only way I will buy, except for the new Macbook when it comes out, because I won't be able to wait for refurbs of those.

I've purchased two iMac refurb'd units in the last year. Both were in excellent condition and they are covered by the same warranty as new units.

Don't hesitate.
iMac - C2D, 2.8Ghz, 4GB, 320GB
MacBook - C2D, 2.4Ghz Uni, 4GB, 500GB

Refurbished or refreshed computers through the Apple Store come with the exact same warrentee that a brand new one does. They shouldn't have many more physical issues (scrathes and scrapes/wear and tear) than a brand new machine. For all intents and purposes, they are brand new computers for a great deal.
