Running Rosetta, the occasional Limewire [java] and a few other programs at once is killing my iMac.

The RAM I found seems to meet all the technical specifications I understand, but I thought I'd let the experts here on the boards give me the thumbs up/down on it to be sure.

Thanks.

It seems to be just fine for your system. As long as it is indeed crucial (like it is advertised) then you shouldn't have any issues with it.

I'm more concerned about your iMac getting bogged down with just so few applications. And what do you mean running Rosetta? Rosetta is only "running" when you are using non-Universal apps, and even then it doesn't hog your system that much.

The slow down occurs when I'm running acquisition (java) + transmission + photoshop + iconographer + safari + iTunes + iChat + Konfabulator

You can feel the machine switching gears and accessing VRAM when I change apps.

Edit: Things get significantly better when I don't have Acquisition running.

Hmmm.

Well, I believe the latest version of Acquisistion is Universal, so that shouldn't be an issue. Obviously the big issue is the non-Universal Photoshop you are running (I would imagine). Oh well. You can never have too much RAM.

Oh yeah, I keep Activity Monitor running at all times too, to monitor network usage. java is usually using the most amount of CPU.

Put yeah, Tiger seems to be a giant hog and 512 MB of RAM ain't gonna cut it, particularly since Photoshop is my fav app.

Edit: Let us not forget Rosetta apps use much more RAM in general.

The memory you linked to is ECC, which the iMacs have never supported.

Did any of you heros notice this is desktop ram and not a SO-DIMM? You need 200 pin DDR2 SO-DIMMs... not the desktop ram you've been linking to.
