I have a dual 1.42 ghz MDD, 2gb ram, running 10.4.6.

I have two 120 GB hard drive's on the ATA100 bus and one 250GB HD on the ATA66 bus.

The computer has 48bit addressing, so throwing in the hard drive, formating it in disk utility all worked flawlessly. I put some data on the drive with sucess. That was last night.

Today I go into disk utility to rip a data CD I have, only to have disk ultility sit there with the spining grey wheel- and it will just do that for hours, not doing a thing, "Gathering Disk Information"

OSX does not think it is hung up, as force quit does not say "application not responding"

What is going on? I use desk utility all the time so this one has me nervious, to say the least.

Try a different user account. Try a reboot too. Do you have any other utilities available, like DiskWarrior?
