hey guys. i just got my imac back from a local authorized apple service provider (the logic board was replaced), and i noticed that the backing of the imac isn't completely flush and even at the top corners of the imac on the back.

furthermore, on the front, i notice that at the bottom of the screen, the lcd is flush against the case, but at the top of the screen, there is a few mm gap between the lcd and the case. it is to the point that if i look at the imac from the side, i can see the inside of the imac

how well put together are your intel imacs?

since it takes me a while to get to the service provider, i would like to have the service provider disassemble my imac and reassemble it while i am there so i don't have to waste more time/gas driving to and from the service provider.

how long do you think it takes to diassemble the imac down to the lcd?
(update - nevermind about the last part. i looked on the web, and luckily for me, the front casing and the lcd are the first parts to come off, instead of the last 2 parts.)

thanks for your insight.

Judging by how quick the techs at my old job broke them down, it is 20 minutes tops to disassemble the iMac to to its key components.

I would love to help as I have a 20-inch iMac that has never been worked on (knock on virtual wood). Could you take pictures of the area you are concerned about? I will compare them to what I have if you would like. It sounds fishy to me.

The mere fact that you noticed something or that it came to your attention would make me worry.

the easiest way to put it is that i can fit 2 quarters in between the lcd and the front bezel at the top of the my imac, but at the bottom of the screen, i would be lucky if i could slide a piece of paper between the lcd and the front bezel.

here is the difference between the right and left side. the difference is disconcerning.

Oh yeah.

That is definitely not correct. The good news is that it is no big deal.

There are three clips up at the top of the housing on the iMac that the back fit up and under. It is just not under one of the clips on that one side.

Place the iMac face down on a towel and locate the three screws under the screen (bottom of the case where the speakers are). Unscrew them until they stop. That will release the back panel which you can then pull up towards you and out of the casing. You can the reset the top of the panel into place so that everything fits snug. All of these instructions can be found at support. apple.com. I think they have detailed instructions with pics.

thanks for the tip! i wasn't able to find pics at support.apple.com, but i need to pick up a part from my service provider anyways so i'll ask him to re-set the casing. i hope this also fixes the gap between the actual lcd and the front bezel
