From startup to shutdown, the fans in my G5 run constantly for no apparent reason. All I have open is a web browser. Only way to silence them is to either put the G5 to sleep or shut it off. Any tips?

well, the fans should never stop working when the power mac is on...its a heating machine and if the fans ever stop working, your pretty much screwed...
but enough with my sarcasm...i am assuming your talking about the fans having to constantly "revv up" and remain that way. i would say you may have a problem with ventilation.
i am guessing that your g5 may be trapped in a corner and not getting enough cool air in the front side of the machine where the fans cause air to get into the machine...
or it may be that it is dusty inside the computer itself and having to get cool air through the computer and the cpu heatsink is becoming a problem...
there are many situations...
i would say that the best solution would be having to call Apple Care.

hah - yeah, I'm aware that fans need to run in general, but the speed and noise level of the fans is unusual and definitely not normal. I've had the G5 long enough to know what it should sound like.
I'll pop the hood this weekend and see if there is any hair / futz that may be causing the poor ventilation. Thanks for the tip.

Set your processor preformance to highest in the energy saver preference pane. See if that makes a difference.

Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
