There are no reported problems with the mini, but even if there was a heat problem, why would it matter? Its not like it would be sitting on your lap....

My concern would be if i was stacking peripherals under the mini.

Mine is dead silent. I have to get my ear within about 9" of the case to barely be able to hear the hard drive spinning. The air coming out the back is fairly warm, and seems to be moving only about as much as it would due to convection. The processor runs 120-125 degrees F normally.

The mac mini's do have fans, but my core duo mini is very quiet. The fan never ramps up to full speed, and i can usually hear the hard drive over it. As miniMoe said, the air flowing from the back is warm, but it hasn't gotten truly hot at all... yet. Stacking the mini on top of something is not an issue, but it is not recommended to put something on top of it. They are actually very capable machines, as long as they have enough ram (at least 1GB).

Many do it, but I'm a little gunshy about putting a hard drive/port exapnder under my Mini because of the experience I've had doing HDTV (Fusion HDTV USB) on a 1920 x 1200 2GHz Dell notebook, admittedly with a hotter 7200 rpm hard drive. Watching live HDTV really hammers the processor AND the hard drive, writing (for PVR functions) and reading constantly. Quite a bit of heat for the notebook to handle. I've decided to go with a fanless, vertical, LaCie Extreme with the Mini, rather than contribute to its heat. Should stand up nicely behind the right side of the 23" HD monitor.

The early intel mini's had widespread airport and blu-tooth range issues.
