hi

I noticed that when I wake my G4 (agp) from sleep and then go to connect to the internet

it gives an error message that takes over the screen - saying that I need to 'restart my computer, hold the power button or press the restart button'

this only happens after waking from sleep and connecting to the internet with Internet Connect

any ideas what could cause this?

so much for supercomputer

why did they market them as supercomputers when they were first released?

Rich, Kernel Panics should only occur very, very rarely on properly running systems. Your G4 has a major problem - likely a software problem but perhaps it's hardware related. You need to do an Archive and Install right now.

Because they were supercomputers - they outperformed nearly the entire consumer/prosumer market. Just because it had a KP doesn't mean its a worse computer

It was designated as a supercomputer because one of the US government's definitions of a supercomputer was the ability to process a gigaflop - one billion instructions per second. That made the G4 line subject to certain export restrictions that were in place at the time.

Hi

The system has just been freshly installed about a week ago

I formated the hard drive and installed OSX 10.3.9

Can you post the text of one of the panic log? It can be found in Console - open it, click on the Logs button, click the Library/Logs triangle, then the CrashReporter triangle and you should see the panic logs.

What devices do you have connected to your USB? Most of the clues point to a problem USB device. Also, there are a couple clues pointing to your network connection. How do you connect to the internet, ethernet -> broadband modem, or perhaps a USB dialup modem?

you really should have mentioned that. anyway, reinstall the drivers/ download new ones or your modem might be broken. when did this start happening?
