At work I have an iMac G5. For a couple of months I've had a problem with it. I would be working and it would freeze up. I wouldn't be able to force quit. I restarted the computer and then a flashing folder icon would show up. The IT guy said to hold down a key (can't remember which one) and then restart. Again, it would give me a flashing folder icon. The IT guy took it to the Apple store and I believe they replaced the motherboard? This happened twice. 2 motherboards? later I get the computer back. They had wiped the computer clean and reinstalled everything.
After working on it for a couple of days, the computer again froze and then after restart the flashing folder showed up! The IT guy checked it out and said that it was because of a downloaded font. I haven't downloaded any fonts. I did install a few fonts that I use on my home computer. My home computer isn't giving me the same problems as my work computer.
Could a bad font cause this problem? If not, what could cause this problem? If it could, why?
I'm just very confused about this. They keep saying I'm doing something to cause this problem. If I am, I'd like to know, because I'm working the same way I've been for the past year...and haven't had any problems...only since we got this refurbished iMac.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
