Hey people, I bought a 20" iMac Core Duo 2.0 GHz a couple of days ago online on the 18th from the Apple Store and I am going bloody nuts waiting for it to ship. It's estimated to ship tomorrow the 23rd and estimated to be delivered on the 31st.

It will probably get here a little sooner than estimated, right? What is your experience? I think I'm going to lose my mind in anticipation.

Anyway, I'm also thinking of selling my fully loaded 17" 1.5GHz Powerbook G4 in mint condition for about $1500, which I'm hoping to get anyway. Am I being too optimistic to expect to get $1500?

The main reason I'm selling my PB is for re-sale value sake because the value of my PB will do nothing but decline if I hold on to it.

I'm thinking of getting a more portable, lower end laptop like the MacBook. I would mainly use the laptop on campus for college courses. I want to spend less than 2 grand.

The only thing that turns me off about the MacBook is the glossy light reflective screen and the lower performing integrated graphics card.

I think the glossy screen might reflect the light a little too much from the overhead lights in the classrooms, or am I just bitching for no reason? What do you think?

Would you say going from my PB to the MB is more an upgrade than a downgrade overall?

I'm not a gamer and don't do any 3D animation rendering or video production, so for everything else the MacBook will scream compared to my PB, right?

I mainly use my PB for Web Development, music, videos, and etc. I use Photoshop and Macromedia Studio 8 apps and I know these apps would run under emulation, but I think I can live with it for a year until Adobe releases the universal binaries.

My other other thought was to get a refurbished MacBook Pro for $1,730.92 shipped instead of a MacBook. If you were me what would you do, MacBook or refurb MacBook Pro?

Any comments are appreciated, thanks.

Glossy: Go into an Apple Store and try one. I've heard impression ranging from "oh my god, it's a useless mirror" to "much better than expected and readable in all lighting conditions."

Graphics: Since you don't play games or run the 3D heavy pro apps, you may never notice. Intel's integrated graphics support Tiger Core Graphics, so should you ever run an app that depends on Core Image/Video you have the features available, just not great performance.

Since you have a more powerful computer on your desk, I'd go with the portable that's more portable.

Thanks for the comments. I'll have to find another Apple reseller in my area because one place didn't get any MacBooks in yet.

By the way, do you think $1500 for my PB is likely, maybe on ebay, huh?

Please be patient. Your iMac should arrive well within Apple's time frame. They seem to allow for the slowest shipping imaginable, probably to keep customers from calling too soon. My experience has been that they rarely have a late shipment.

My iMac arrived almost a week before ETA, no doubt that yours will do the same! Hang in there! It's hard to do, I know.

About the MacBook's screen. I just saw a MacBook today and compared it to the iBook. Personally, the MacBook is impressively smaller, thinner, and yes, readable in "all" lighting. I love the glossy screen, but to tell you the truth I didn't even notice it at first. I kid at my school has an HP (ew) laptop with a glossy screen and it looks VERY impressive. I've never noticed the lighting make the screen unreadable. Even if it did, it'd never be as bad as a CRT.

Let's see.... I placed my iMac order (totally custom, 500 gig harddrive, 256 Vram, etc.) on 6/21/06... Expected ship date 6/26/06 with a delivery date of 7/3/06. But I had problems with the Rep who took my order, so I complained.. and I'll be getting my iMac 6/27/06. Can't wait til FedEX pulls up later tomorrow.

Also, expected ship date was 6/26/06 as stated above, and the real ship date was 6/23/06. So they were early by a day.

$1500 is indeed a little over of what you should expect. I paid $1250 for the same machine with a gig of ram, year old, about 4 months ago. That was without the introduction of the MBP or the Macbook.

You shoud look at around $1300 depending on how much applecare you got left and condition..
