I recently acquired one of these beasts. Its a huge workgroup tower that weighs around 100 lbs. Anyway i have heard vaguely that it will run os x but first things first. It doesn't have a video card installed. It has many pci slots and i've tried throwing a pc video card in there which doesn't work. Will a mac video card work or does it need to be a proprietary IBM card? Would also be interested if anyone has osx running on one of these things. Would be fun to get the thing working but i figure its only about as fast as a single g3.

What you have purchased is either an IBM server or a workstation. Since it doesn't have a graphics card installed, I suspect the former. In either case, it's not a Mac, hence closing …

If you wish to install Linux on it, however, check out SuSE PPC or another PPC-compatible distro.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Mac OS and Mac OS X for PPC can't boot on any non-Apple PPC hardware. They lack the ROMs needed to understand the Mac filesystem and load its kernel.
