Hi, my friend got an old G3 350 Mhz Blue and White desktop, I have a spare ZIF G4 466 processor.
Is there a way to get this processor into the G3 and make it run faster? we tried overclocking the G3 350 to 400 Mhz but that didn't work out.

If it's truly a ZIF, it will pop right in. If you pulled it from a PowerMac G4 (except for the Yikes) it won't work.
And what do you mean when you say the overclocking didn't work? I've had two B&W G3/350's and I had one overclocked to 400 running reliably. Did it not start up at all, or did you get the "you must restart your computer" message?

Announced in January 2001, the PowerMac G4 (Digital Audio) was the first speed increase for the PowerMac line in over a year. The G4 (Digital Audio) was so-named because of a new Built-in Amplifier, designed to drive USB speakers, along with the conventional minijack line output.
While I have no real knowledge about such CPU upgrades, I have never upgrade any of my Macs' CPUs LOL, I though G3 & G4 CPUs were not pin compatible.

A 466 installed in a B&W will run at speed intervals of 50mhz instead of 33......ie 400, 450, not 433, 466.
As for overclocking the B&W ZIF, it can be done, but each individual chip has different tolerances. My B&W o/c'd from 300 to 500 notta problemo, but my friend's would only go from 400 to 450 But you MUST update the firmware on ALL B&W's PRIOR to installing the G4 cpu or it wont boot at all, as well as ensure that the heatsink and clip are properly re-installed & oriented correctly, or it will burn up in a matter of minutes!
check the upgraders database at www.xlr8yourmac.com for more info & pics

thank you so much for your inputs
now
I have my G4 533 that has a broken powersupply. I want to replace it, is a powersupply from a Blue&White 300 Mhz similar? Those go for 50 euro's complete, so it would be a very cheap replacement. However, this G4 533 should have 4 internal drives (i have a sonnet pci-card ata 100)

Most of the DA's shipped with a 338w PSU, but the B&W's shipped with a 200w one. Although it would technically work, I would not recommend it, especially with a 533mhz cpu, 4 HD's and an ata card in the DA.......
