i know the eMac was moved to the education market about a year ago now but can still buy one for myself at home? from the apple store or somewhere else (other then ebay, i want a new machine) oh and any comments on what it is like (speed, noise, graphics etc) thanx

I'm sure there are probably some places that still have stock of them, but I'm not sure that buying one would be a good idea unless it was very cheap. They weren't bad machines, but the Intel Macs are so much better in terms of performance.

yeah i guess you are right, the mac mini does seem tempting and i can get a core duo mini, 17" TFT monitor, keyboard and mouse for only £692, but my mind is sill not made up, people of the world i still need your help!

Here's on at Amazon's UK store, but I would second the opinion of going the Mini route. You'll get much more usable life out of it before it needs replaced and the modular design means that even then you'll only have to replace the Mini, and not the display.

thanx, but i did see an mac that had a 160gb hard drive and 512 ram, and a superdrive, that to be honest seems a pretty good combination but i dunno what do u thin k ppl of the world?

You cannot compare the Intels against te G4 PPCs. They are so far apart in terms of performance. The Mini will be approx 4-5 times faster than the eMac in the most part. There really is no reason to get the eMac - the mini comes standard with the 512 RAM that you said the eMac has. OK it doesn't have a 160 HD or a superdrive, but you can always buy external ones as and when you need them.
The mini wins hands down
