I accidently tried to boot my revA B&W G3/350 with the IDE cable to the HD dissconnected.
After understanding why it did not boot i pulled the plug and inserted the IDE cable and then put back power.
Now it boots with anormal bong sound and then briefly shows the Apple, then it hangs on a sign that is a circle with a diagonal bar through it similar to a no parking sign.

What has happened and how do I sort it out?

Double-check the cable, make sure it's really been re-seated well. Reset the pram, (boot while holding down command+option+p+r until it chimes thrice) then maybe try booting holding down the option key, which allows you to pick an OS if there's more than one available. This'll at least tell you whether the machine thinks there's a viable OS on the drive.

As a last resort, grab you OS X install disk, and do an Archive and Install, selecting the options to preserve users & network settings.

The "no parking sign" is known as the prohibitory sign, which means the system couldn't find a valid System folder to boot from.

Since the word "prohibitory" is pretty close to "prohibition", it would be more accurate to call it a "No Drinking Sign". btw - you shouldn't operate a sophisticated computer while drinking anyway.

Thanks for the help, I am doing a clean install of 10.3. The prohibitory sign is a new one for me. Flashing question marks, death chimes etc I have had before. I recentely aquired the G3 allmost for free, and will use if for Fold@home, some old games etc. If I can find some jumpers I will try to OC a bit hopefully up to 450

Now the B&W failed complety getting stuck at a prohibitory sign. A lot of differenet things was tried, to no use until I replaced the HD.

I later tried the HD in an external FW case. Here I found out why, the disk has trouble spinning up ,it needed 10-15 tries before it squekingly showed up on the desktop. That HD is now discarded, and the computer back at F@H. I have yet to OC it, that will be reported at xlr8yourmac.
