I have a 700 MHz Flat Panel G4 iMac running 10.2.8 with 768 MB of RAM.
Is this machine worth upgrading to 10.3 or 10.4? I am afraid that this upgrade would just slow the system down. Would one of the upgrades be better than another? Although I can get the student upgrade price on 10.4, 10.3 is selling on eBay for under $25.

10.3 would not slow it down, i don't know about tiger. are there any applications you want to use that won't run well in jaguar? i have 800 g4 that i upgraded to panther from 10.1 a year ago. like playing with a new machine. slowed down macsolitaire but allowed me to use pearlyrics. for that kind of money how can you go wrong? would you like to have the extra features of tiger----only you can answer that?

10.3 will be great. 10.4 should be good too, but in my experience 10.4 is a bit more ram hungry, so you might want to consider adding some more..
I use 10.4 on a 1ghz powerbook with 768mb of ram, and its good enough, but does show signs of ram starvation from time to time.
10.3 or 10.4 are definitely worthy upgrades over 10.2

The worst thing about having a failing memory is..... no, it's gone.

i use Tiger on a 700 mHz emac. i have 768 MB of ram. it's perfectly useable, though it could use a bit more RAM. i think Tiger runs a little slower on it than panther did, but it's fast enough and Tiger is a better OS than Panther, so i haven't thought about downgrading.

tiger 10.4.6 works great on my PowerMac G4 400mhz, with 512mb. I also had panther on there before and i have noticed no slowdown between the versions.
