I have a 1GHZ Emac with 384 MB RAM. Sometimes it gets bogged down a bit, usually when I hve a lot of browser tabs open, so I limit the number of tabs I open. I was thinking of buying a 512MB card to bring it to 768. (This would be $70-95.) Would I be better off saving it and buying a refurb Mini in a year instead? If I'm ever going to upgrade the Emac I figure sooner is better so I get more use. How much longer will the Emac remain usable for web-browsing and such?

I think your eMac will be viable for webbrowsing for quite some time. I would upgrade the RAM now... and get a mini sometime down the road. Its always good to have a spare computer around for light duty tasks.

PS be sure that you are sure what kind of RAM your eMac takes, some take PC133, some take PC2700..

If your doing lite work, and for the most part the speed isn't all that bad, then the increased memory will get the emac a little longevity. While nothing is fun as getting a new mac, the emac seems to fit your needs.
