Dear Team

I have just downloaded the latest itunes and MAC OSX (PowerPC) updates. After restarting my computer the volume icon was gone from the top right corner and there is no sound. In 'sound' in system preferences everything is greyed out and in 'output' the message 'no output devices found'. When I click 'show volume in menu bar' the icon appears but disappears as soon as it is touched.

I don't know if it is my imagination but the restart seemed to take a lot longer than usual.

Imac G5,

Any help very welcome.

Thanks
Caroline

As no one could help on this forum I Googled the question. It seems a few people have had this problem after downloading 10.4.7. I tried continuously rebooting and the sound just came back of its own accord after the fifth or sixth go.

Unfortunately, losing all your sound except system sound is fairly common, and it's not an intuitive fix. Apple has a knowledge base article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300832.

Hope this helps!

I lost the sound on my mini after upgrading the RAM. The ribbon cable came out from the connector on the back of the unit. Reopened the case and plugged it back in. Works fine now. Perhaps you will need to open up your mini and check the cable.
