Hello, all. I'm wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to run a Duo iMac and use an external DVI monitor ONLY and somehow turn off the iMac's LCD. Reason? I'm looking at buying a mac and the mini's integrated graphics don't look like they'll cut it so I'm looking at the extra HP from an iMac with the ATI graphics, but I have a perfectly good widescreen LCD and quite frankly, the stark white styling of the iMac isn't what I want on my desk.

So now that the iMac Duo's can Mirror, is there a hack to shut off the main LCD? Thanks.

AFAIK, no there is no hack. If you don't want the iMac on your desk, you're crazy! Its a work of art! And you will also benefit from having dual screens, vs just one, good for having more windows open at once.

The styling is fine (and I'm not trying to start an asthetics debate here) but personally I'd take a clean black LCD over the stark white, Jay Leno look of the current iMac. I guess my desk design leans more "Batcave" than "Fortress of Solitude" But hey, to each his own.

I may end up waiting for the new Pro machines next month, but they may be priced out of where I'm looking and if they make even half the noise of the current pro desktops, that's still too much.

If you turn the brightness down all the way the screen will shut off.

If you just want an LCD on your desk, maybe you should get a mini. They are not as powerful as the iMac but since you don't want the iMac on your desk, it's really the only good option I can think of.
