On an iMac g5 OS 10.4.7 with 1 Gig of RAM

I am not able to startup the computer from any startup CD-have tried DiskWarrior CD, Tiger DVD, and Panther CD. The grey screen loads & eventually I get a circle with a line through it. The computer starts up normally from the system on the internal HD.

i dont think your computer can startup with a system with a lower version than what it came with.

have you tried reseting the pram?

the computer should absolutely start up with the install dvd or a tiger diskwarrior. that is a strange problem. have you tried checking with apple techs?

Well, I finally called Apple & a senior tech was able to figure it out.

The Tiger DVD ( color is black)I was trying to restart the computer from was purchased when Tiger was first released. I used it to upgrade a G4 which I no longer have. Apple tech told me to use for grey color DVD (which came with my 7 month old Imac)& that was able to boot up the Imac & install the software on an external drive.

I was always under the impression that a retail purchased upgrade (the black one)would work on any computer.

The other strange part of this was that it would also not startup from the Disk Warrior CD which I thought I had used before on this computer. Alsoft (D. Warrior maker) now tells me I will need an upgrade for their product to work on this computer.

Nope. How could the disc include the code to boot machines that don't exist at the time the disc is made?
